Editor's review
An application that can capture video frames and create image out of that.
Pros: VidImageSplitter can capture frames out of a video clip and convert the captured frames into image formats. Whatever may be the reason you need to capture a frame or a sequence of them and need the image, this is the application that can do the job. Many output format are supported - jpeg, png, bmp, gif. Many popular video formats such as wmv, avi, mpeg, mov etc are supported.
The user interface is simple. It is just one screen. Once the input file is selected, relevant information such as size, length and frames per second of the video file are displayed. Parameters to be set are the format of the output images. BMP, JPEG, PNG and GIF are possible. One can specify the size of the image required. One can specify zoom options too. Frame capture every n seconds or every n frames are possible and can be specified. Specify a logo file, that gets copied onto every image, and its opacity and everything is set for the conversion. Capture a single frame or a set of frames based on the time sample or frames one has selected. Outputs are preserved in the output default or whatever been specified by the user.
Cons: Video formats supported are wmv, avi, mpeg, mov etc. It is not clear if all the profiles and codecs of MPEG 2 & 4 are supported. Particularly MPEG4, H.264 based compression is becoming increasingly popular. Similarly you Tube compatibility is not known.
Overall, the application is for a simple application, though implementation can get complex because of the variety of formats out there. This application certainly rates 3 stars.
